The WaterWELL Homeowner Series is a set of classes that teach homeowners how to implement water conservation practices in their landscapes. Since this series is specifically tailored toward homeowners, the classes are presented in a simple and user-friendly manner, foregoing technical jargon. The purpose is to provide simple, yet effective water-saving plans to the general public. Classes are offered in English and Spanish, and some are available in Mandarin. Agencies can offer these workshops as a complete series or they can be handpicked depending on the educational needs of their customers.

Garden Design Concepts

This class will demonstrate the importance of implementing a design program when installing or renovating a garden. The class focuses on design concepts and ideas for creating a water-efficient garden, including the selection of plants and materials.

Garden Design Applications

This class will take attendees through a simplified process of designing a well-planned landscape. This includes information about conducting a thorough site analysis, developing accurate plot plans, and effectively using overlays and construction details.

Sprinkler and Drip System Basics

This class is designed for homeowners who are interested in learning more about the installation and maintenance of a residential irrigation system. Attendees will become familiarized with the components and layout of a system, as well as common irrigation problems.

Drought Tolerant Plants

This class is designed to teach homeowners the importance of using California native plant material in their garden. Attendees will learn about various trees, shrubs and groundcovers that are readily available in California and well-suited for the area.

Watering Scheduling Guidelines

This class will provide attendees with an easy method of developing watering schedules for their gardens. The class will also provide practical guidelines and tips for amending soils, fertilizing and other general, yet important, maintenance-related items.

Water Efficient Gardening

This class covers four popular topics: garden design concepts, sprinkler and drip system care, drought-tolerant plants and watering scheduling guidelines. Attendees will get a basic understanding of water management techniques that will help them maintain a green and healthy garden while managing their water use.

Landscape Care

This class covers some of the fundamentals of landscape maintenance such as horticulture, soils, fertilizers, nutrients, pruning, and pests and diseases. It will provide attendees with an understanding of theory and practical information they can use in their garden to make it more water efficient.

3 Easy Steps to Convert Your Lawn

This class is excellent for the do-it-yourself (DIY) homeowner who is thinking about removing their turf and installing landscapes that can thrive in California’s climate. Attendees will learn how to: replace existing turf in three easy steps, conduct a site analysis, plan a new drought-tolerant landscape, prepare the landscape area and learn efficient irrigation techniques.
